A global directory web application for video calling discovery and availability

With the recent increase in the implementation of video calling services like facetime, zoom, MS Teams it seems that there is a significant need for a large web application that provides discovery services for the users of video calling. 


By discovery services I mean the ability to index and look up human users of video calling, the ability to make yourself discoverable within the directory, the ability to provide live availability and have it integrated into other systems like mobile or desk-top computing.


The way I see this type of application working shares some similarities to old paper phone books that list names and numbers, the main concern of the user of a phone book is the discovery of an individual's phone number and I see this idea evolving into the discovery of video calling credentials online. The phone number part grows into connection details for zoom, FaceTime, MS Teams, the more impressive part of this application is the live availability of the users displayed with synchronisation with the users mobile phone experience.


The mobile phone user's operating system can send the web application live notification updates on availability status, so for example if I want to turn off notifications on my mobile, my discoverability on the directory web site displays a non-connectable status on my profile. Moreover the directory web application can understand ideas like VIP users and might change the connection status depending on which user has requested permission to connect to a particular human.


Even as the user uses video calling or other services that require focussed attention the status can be reflected within the directory web application, also a user can schedule time to receive video calls in a very granular way so for example I can arrange things so I am contactable through the web app directory weekdays between 10am-8pm and be non contactable at all other times.
