Some social consequences of virtual meeting software use.

The association of the individuals in silicon valley during the use of virtual meeting software by users for example computer experts mainly think about the speed and quality of their internet connection, the responsiveness and stability of the software application, security of the operating system etc, other users will think more about the human element e.g. the workers in silicon valley that have been involved in the project.

In social science and in particular human relationships and networks there is the idea of strong and weak ties. An example of a strong tie would be a parent, an example of a weak tie might be a Deliveroo rider that you interact with occasionally. My point here is that relationships formed and maintained using virtual meeting software have a strength of tie, stronger than telephone and email and potentially weaker than in-person ties.

Within the realm of virtual meetings a certain strength of tie potential exists that a person might want to adjust or maintain. Want stronger ties with a person, you might want an in person meeting, want to maintain the relationship, probably a virtual meeting will be sufficient, want to weaken the ties with someone? A series of virtual meetings can gradually lower the tie strength if a strong tie exists at the moment.
